Sunday 30th March – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington – sunny.

Foil – 18.35 knot max , 16.93 knot ave, 11.66 knot hour , 15.50 knot mile, 23.59 km., 14.62 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 5.2.

I was keen to go windsurfing early so I could get back as we had family coming round to celebrate Mothers Day with Mag so I headed to Levington, arriving at the marina at 8.50 despite high water being at 1.23 but with the wind NW you can sail straight out of the channel! I could not park near the launch beach as there was huge pipes used for dredging in the way so I had to walk a little further today but not a big problem and my foil board was quickly set up and by the water. Sail choice was not easy with the wind NW cross off from the right making it difficult to judge the strength but there was white water everywhere so it was definitely windier than I expected so I took a chance with my 5.2? Being wall to wall sunshine no hat and gloves for the first time this year as I launched at 9.30 and quickly realised I had rigged too big, my 4.7 would have been better! I decided to have a few runs to see if I could cope, there were some challenging conditions with a really big swell running down the River Orwell with wind gusting over 25 knots. I was good fun sailing in the lumpy conditions in the lovely sunshine, ther was even the odd yacht out. I slowly made my way down to the corner and was gybing OK desite the river state and enjoyed some runs down the river but it was tiring for an old boy sailing overpowered, I did go in a few times but could water start quikly that’s for sure. So with the wind showing no signs of easing I beat back and decided to call it a day after about 75 minutes, pack up shower and head for home to hear about Mags day. She had a pretty full-on morning considering she was supposed to be relaxing but had had a nice chat with the Grandson in Devon. Mag was surprised that I was back so early, I said I would have been out longer if I had rigged a smaller sail! There was a chance that we were going to see the piggies at Rendlesham with the Grannddaughter but sadly she was not 100% so we put that off to another weekend so I was able to do my exercises in the back garden. I then watched the the ladies rugby match where Italy played Ireland before Maeva came for a lovely evening with lots of yummy cake with lots of dancing with 80,s disco music on Youtube – top day:)
